Readers from preschool age through adult will celebrate our theme, “Build A Better World“, with related books, activities, games, door prizes, and more. Grab a front row seat to high-quality programs, earn great prizes, and stay reading-ready. Registration begins June 27, 2017 at 11:30am featuring Smokey the Bear, special guests, and a perfomance by “The Balloon Lady,” Donna Pruett. Come and enjoy the fun! It’s all FREE and Open to the Public! #READ!

Summer Reading Program

Anytime is a good time to read, but summer is an important time to keep it up. Participating in the library summer reading program can make the difference between summer setback and summer success, leading to better academic performance when kids and teens return to school in the fall. Plus, our library makes summer reading fun, with incentives, arts and crafts and special events designed to enhance the reading experience.

How it Works

How it Works: All ages (Pre-K through adult) are eligible to participate in the Summer Reading Program.

1. Registration & Kickoff Fun Begins June 27 at 11:30am. However, you can enroll any time after June 27.

2. After registering at the library, each person will receive a reading log. Read or listen to as many books as you can, write the titles on your reading log, and report the number to the library (Over the phone or in person).

3. Earn a Summer Reading Certificate after reporting at least 5 books.

4. July 19: Halfway Refuel! Report the number of books you have read so far and pick up reading incentives.

5. July 31: Last Day to Report Books for Top Reader Prizes! Sciencetellers & Winding Down Cookout (11am)

6. Join the Summer Reading Closing Celebration August 5 at 11:00am. featuring Boho the Clown, Top Readers, Door Prizes, Refreshments.  

Children and Families

Build a Better World

Children (up to grade 6) can earn prizes for reading, or being read to as many books as possible, write the titles on their reading log, and report the number to the library. All participants can visit the library June 27 through July 31 to receive reading awards, such as books, toys, coupons, and public recognition on the Wall of Fame. Escape the heat and visit the library to have fun with awesome activities. Make plans to attend our celebration of readers on August 5 @ 11 a.m.!!

Out of this World

Tweens and Teens in grades 6-12 will blast-off to other worlds this summer by reading as much as you can, recording books on your log, reporting the number of books to the library and by attending amazing programs. Earn cool swag, public recognition on the Wall of Fame, and certificates for reading at least five books. Your SRP registration doubles as an entry to an End of Summer Gift Pack giveaway. Read as many books as you can to capture the Top Reader Award at our closing celebration on August 5 @11 a.m.!

Adults

Build a Better World

Adults can make their world a better place by participating in activities that encourage community service and personal growth. Pick up your certificate once you have read at least five books during the SRP – between June 27 and July 31. Participate in the library’s SRP food drive where each donation of four nonperishable food items counts as a book read on your reading log through July 31. All items will be donated to the local food pantry in Warrenton, NC. Join us for the grand finale reading celebration and recognition of Top Readers on August 5, 2017 @ 11:00 a.m.

The Vietnam Veterans 50th Anniversary Recognition Program is an opportunity to thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war (POW), or listed as missing in action (MIA), for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans.
