“Gone With the Wind? Never: Scarlett O’Hara and Southern Womanhood”

Tuesday, March 10th 12:00 pm

Dr. Lucinda MacKethan, an accomplished author and editor who recently retired as Alumni Distinguished Professor of English at NC State University, will present a look at the character Scarlett O’Hara (especially as portrayed in the 1939 film of Margaret Mitchell’s novel Gone With the Wind) and discuss how the character was impacted by stereotypes of Southern women, and what stereotypes resulted from the character’s creation. This presentation is made possible by a grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council. The North Carolina Humanities Council is a nonprofit foundation and a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Also Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Warren CountyMemorial Library
